Join KOS members for a weekend of paper presentations and birding in south central Kansas.

Paper abstracts are due by September 15; send in MS Word to Chuck Otte at otte2@cox.net.

Schedule of Events

Friday, October 2
7:00 p.m.— Informal reception at Dillon Nature Center, 3002 E 30th Ave., Hutchinson.  Mingle, visit and maybe do a little night birding

Saturday, October 3 (Revised Full Saturday Schedule)
7:45 a.m. —Registration begins at Shears Technology Center, Hutchinson Community College, one block west of 14th and Plum.  Park in the big parking lot on the west side of the Technology Center.
8:30 - 8:45 a.m.—Welcome.
8:45 - 9:00 a.m. —Business meeting.
9:00 a.m. - noon —Paper session.
Noon - 1:30 p.m. —Lunch on your own; KOS board will meet in location to be determined.
1:30 - 2:30 p.m. —Birdwatchers' Hour.
2:30 - 5:00 p.m. —Paper session. Silent auction ends.
5:00 - 5:30 p.m. —Business meeting.
6:00 - 6:30 p.m. —Social.
6:30-9:00 —Banquet – Grand Prairie Hotel & Convention Center, 1400 North Lorraine St., Hutchinson.  Our Banquet Speaker will be Brad Jacobs from Missouri Department of Conservation.  Brad has been involved with the Avian Conservation Alliance of the Americas (ACAA), and will talk about the time he has spent in the neotropics conserving habitat for many of our breeding birds.

Sunday, October 4
6:30 a.m.—Half-day field trips to locations including: McPherson Valley Wetlands, Cheney Reservoir, Sandhill State Park, Quivira NWR.
Noon—Lunch and compilation at the Dillon Nature Center

Lodging and Dining
KOS has room blocks at two hotels.  We have 30 rooms blocked at the Hampton Inn, 620-665-9800, 1401 1/2 E. 11th Avenue, for $89.95 and 20 rooms at Comfort Inn, 620-663-7822, 1621 Super Plaza (just west of 17th and Highway 61), for 79.95.  The cutoff date on these blocks is September 14th. 

There are many places to eat along Highway 61 in northeast Hutchinson and along 30th Ave in north Hutchinson.

Registration -
Registration will be $15, the Saturday evening banquet will be $20 and the Sunday box lunch will be $7.  The registration form can be found here.  All participants must sign the liability release on the registration form in order to participate in any portion of this meeting.

Silent auction
Members and guests are strongly encouraged to bring donated items for the Silent Auction. Suitable donations include birding-themed equipment, field guides, bird houses, bird baths and optics. All proceeds go to the KOS Student Research Fund.
