If additional details have been provided, follow the link from the count name. If no details are indicated, contact the compiler! Starting in 2018, KOS has set standard dates that won't change from year to year. Those dates are December 12 to January 12. (Please note that a few non-Kansas (but very close) CBCs are included in this list!)

If you've never participated in a Christmas Bird Count, here's some quick information about what they are and what to expect.

Because of complications and safety concerns with COVID-19 several CBCs are not being conducted or are doing so under far different logistics. PLEASE contact compiler for instructions on participating. If you are not a CBC regular but live with a CBC circle this may be a good year to get started by being a feeder watcher. Contact your local compiler for details on this! Please follow CDC recommendations of masks and social distancing required in all outdoor settings. Car pooling is discouraged, except for immediate family member groups.

Arkansas City - HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Benedictine Bottoms - Participants must contact the coordinator (John) 2 days prior to the count so that the coordinator can assign party areas.  Parties will be restricted to individuals or persons that are together on a day to day basis.  There will be no organized meet-up prior to the start of the count.

Black Mesa -  Contact compiler for details.

Blackwolf - Contact Mike for details

Bonner Springs/Lansing - Participants must contact the coordinator (John) 2 days prior to the count so that the coordinator can assign party areas.  Parties will be restricted to individuals or persons that are together on a day to day basis.  There will be no organized meet-up prior to the start of the count.

El Dorado - Meet at the west parking lot McDonalds in El Dorado, 2004 West Central, at 7:30 a.m. Notify the compiler if you plan to attend.

Halstead/Newton - Meet at the Kaufman Museum, 27th and Main in North Newton, at 6:45 a.m.  Bring a sack lunch. Compilation at 4:30 p.m. at the museum. Contact compiler if you plan to participate.

Hays - Please contact compiler for information on social distancing protocols they will follow.

Holton - Contact compiler for details if you are interested.

Kanopolis Lake - Please meet at 8 a.m. in Riverside Park. Bring your lunch, beverages and mask. Lunch break will be outdoors in Riverside Park. Please let Bob know if you plan to help with the count.

Kirwin -Contact Compiler for information and area assignments.

John Redmond - Please contact Bob prior to the count. Participants will be emailed all the forms, maps prior to the count or can pick them up at 7:30 am at the John Redmond Corps of Engineers office parking lot.

Junction City - HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Lawrence - Because of the pandemic, there will be no chili supper at the end of the day, and new field participants are not being recruited. However, new participants are encouraged to watch their yards and feeders and report their results, which will be added to the area CBC. If you would like to join in, please contact Galen Pittman before the event for instructions.

Linn County - Contact Roger ahead of time for assignments and instructions.

Lovewell - Contact Henry if you are interested in participating.

Manhattan - Contact compiler for details, instructions and assignments. There will be a Zoom meeting Sunday the 20th at 7 p.m. for the compilation. Participants will be sent the link and more information when they email Mark to confirm participation.

Marion - Meet at Wendy's in Hillsboro at 7:30 a.m. for assignments. Contact Tom for more information.

Olathe - Contact compiler ahead of time for instructions and assignments.

Olsburg - Meet in Olsburg at Greenwood Park (west side of Olsburg) at 7:30 a.m.

Parsons - Please contact Andrew by December 14th if you plan to participate for instructions and assignments.

Quivira - Contact compiler. Routes will be assigned ahead of time.

Red Hills - Meet at the Casey's General Store, 314 S Iliff in Medicine Lodge Groups will depart at 7:30 a.m.

Salina - Contact Compiler for information and area assignments.

Slate Creek - Meet at the Slate Valley Baptist Church, 7 miles south of Oxford at 8:00 a.m.

St. Marys - Contact compiler for area assignments and instructions prior to the count.

Topeka - Contact compiler for information. Participants are pre-assigned to a area. There will be no compilation this year.

Webster Reservoir - Contact compiler.

Wichita - Meet at the Great Plains Nature Center parking lot at 7:30 a.m. Compilation is at 5:30 pm. at the Great Plains Nature Center Covid permitting.

Winfield/Udall - HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Yoder - Meet at Carriage Crossing restaurant parking lot in Yoder at 8:00 a.m. There will be no group breakfast this year. Please contact compiler ahead of time if you plan to participate.
