Schedule of Events

Friday, September 30th
7:00-9:00 p.m.— Informal reception at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center (KWEC). Light refreshments served.

Saturday, October 1st
9:00 a.m.—Registration begins at KWEC.
9:00 a.m.—Welcome.
9:10 a.m.—Business meeting.
9:30 a.m.–11:30—Paper session.
11:30–1:30 p.m.—Lunch on your own; KOS board will meet in location to be determined.
1:30–2:30 p.m.—Birdwatchers' Hour.
2:30–4:00 p.m.—Paper session. Silent auction ends.
4:00–4:30 p.m.—Business meeting.
6:00–6:30 p.m.—Social and “Birds of Kansas” book signing by authors at Barton Community College Student Union.
6:30–9:00—Banquet.

Sunday, October 2nd
6:30 a.m.—Half-day field trip locations may include Cheyenne Bottoms, Quivira National Wildlife Refuge, Cheyenne Scoutlands, Great Bend Cemetery and other locations.
Noon—Lunch and compilation at KWEC.


Lodging
There is a large class reunion and a couple of weddings this same weekend in Great Bend, so early room reservations are advised. KOS has room blocks at several hotels. Unless indicated, all hotels are in Great Bend.

• Best Western Angus Inn (800) 862-6487, 2920 10th St. Rates are $64.95–68.95 + tax. Cutoff date is September 16.

• Cheyenne Bottoms Inn and Suites (620) 292-6022, 57 W. Highway 4, Hoisington. Rates are $62.00 + tax. Cutoff date is September 15th.

• Comfort Inn (620) 793-9000, 911 Grant St. Rates are $89.99–94.99 + tax. Cutoff date is September 9.

• Travelers Budget Inn (620) 793-5448, 4200 10th St. Rates $36.95–46.95 + tax. No cut off date.

Dining
Great Bend has a variety of eating establishments along 10th Street (U.S. 56/K-96).

Registration
The meeting registration fee is $20; the Saturday evening banquet is $20 for those who paid the registration fee and $30 for those who did not; the Sunday box lunch is $7. Unless presenting, students will pay a $5 registration fee. Registrations received after September 15 will carry a $10 surcharge.  The registration form may be found here. Silent auction

Members and guests are strongly encouraged to bring donated items for the Silent Auction. Suitable donations include birding-themed equipment, field guides, bird houses, bird baths and optics. All proceeds go to the KOS Student Research Fund.

Best Bird of the Year
Nomination for unusual or rare birds observed since September 30, 2010.
